All information about entry level referee training is found at the CT State Referee Program website. All registration and instructional materials for entry level clinics will be done online. Below is a summary of requirements and what to expect.
You will not be able to register for the field session until you complete the online training. You must complete field training and exam on the same day. Expect to stay until the end and do not ask to leave early.
The majority of referee training is done online. All training requirements must be completed at that time. Should you want to ref next year, you must complete training (online and field session before end of December.
You must be at least 13 years old as of June 30th. I find many perform better and enjoy it more when they start at an older age. We would like more adults (male and female) to get involved as there are only a handful of us that are certified referees.
Referees must provide their own uniform and equipment. I recommend that you purchase a starter kit for under $50. Official Sports is the official supplier to US Soccer but you may use any supplier. The CT Referee Program has links to some stores that carry Soccer Referee Uniforms. You will not find soccer referee uniforms at Sports Authority and Dick's Sporting Goods.
Most recreation games are played on Saturday mornings and travel games are played in the afternoons. South Windsor pays referees between $25 and $70 per assignment but referees can work in other towns and at tournaments. Income earned depends on desire, availability and experience.
Should you have questions concerning referee training or referees in general, please feel free to contact me.
